Job Summary
Rooms clients prior to scheduled MD/DO/APRN appointment, returns patient calls, completes medication refill requests, provides medication education printouts, completes waived testing, assists with medication prior authorizations when indicated, and provides services in accordance with established performance indicators and organizational guidelines.
Essential Functions
Perform general LPN duties as evidenced by:
- Observing, reporting, and documenting mental/emotional/behavioral state of clients.
- Implementing treatment plan directives as developed by MD/DO/APRN or primary therapist.
- Caring for patients experiencing acute mental distress or who have an enduring mental illness.
- Assessing and talking to patients about their problems and discussing the best way to plan and deliver their care.
- Building relationships with patients to encourage trust while listening to and interpreting their needs and concerns.
- Responding to distressed patients in a non-threatening manner and attempting to understand the source of distress.
- Applying de-escalation techniques to help people manage their emotions and behavior.
- Preparing and maintaining patient records.
- Ensuring that the legal requirements appropriate to a particular setting or group of patients are observed.
- Working with patients' families and caregivers, helping to educate them and the patient about their mental health problems.
- Promoting a recovery-based approach to care.
- Work with team to schedule medical appointments per OBHAW guidelines.
- Coordinate with scheduling for all medical appointment types, including but not limited to, PDAs (full evaluations), medication checks, pain evaluations, and MMO for all medical providers at all locations.
- Ensure the provider has all records and information needed for new client appointments.
- Forward clients to Engagement Specialist for follow up where recognized.
- Work with the team to cover each company location where a nurse or medical assistant is needed due to illness, vacation, or shortage, including MAT when assigned staff is not available.
- Provide assistance and support to providers for medical services as evidenced by:
- Administering medication as directed by staff psychiatrist. This includes client injections and medications for CLIMB students in the morning and afternoon when assigned staff are not available.
- Maintaining accurate inventory of all medications and ensuring medications are stored in a secure location.
- Providing client and family education on desired effect and possible side effects of medication.
- Documenting services according to organizational procedure.
- Recognizing and assessing injury and infectious/communicable diseases, including for CLIMB students when needed.
- Ensuring that follow-up calls are made for clients with medication concerns.
- Overseeing lab requests. This includes faxing lab requests to requested facility and following up to ensure results are in the chart.
- Providing back up for refill requests.
- Triaging medical faxes.
- Monitoring and handling prior authorizations for medication in a timely manner for all medical providers as needed when assigned office staff is not available.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as evidenced by:
- Staying informed of current policies and procedures, committee actions, and other information required for the functional operation of the company, researching available resources and/or asking questions of supervisor or designee as needed.
- Following company security and confidentiality policies at all times, accessing client and staff information only as needed for job duties and as approved by supervisor.
- Complying with organizational computer, social media, and internet usage policies, reporting problems, and suggesting improvements to procedures, software, and equipment.
- Adhering to work schedule and submitting requests for leave according to procedure. Unscheduled PTO/Absences (leave that is not scheduled and approved in advance) should not exceed three (3) in a 12-month period.
- Completing required annual online training (i.e., Relias) and other training required by organization or for licensure.
- Work as a member of the team as evidenced by:
- Providing exemplary customer service to clients and coworkers, receiving no more than two (2) formal complaints per year.
- Following appropriate lines of communication to report and resolve problem situations according to established guidelines, chain of command, and approved committee actions.
- Accepting constructive criticism related to performance and demonstrating acceptance by taking personal responsibility for appropriate change.
- Using appropriate emailing etiquette such as replying to emails in a timely manner, using discretion when forwarding another person's email, and using personal email accounts for nonwork-related email.
- Serving as a peer mentor for new employees as requested.
- Participating in staffing and supervision.
- Participating in at least two (2) organization or partner organization community events per year.
- Performing other work-related tasks as requested by an authorized supervisor.

- Ability to travel to the office daily, or as required by the supervisor.
- Knowledge and application of Client Rights and Responsibilities of all persons seeking services from organization.
- Child Abuse Statues and mandated reporting.
- Assessing injury, infectious/communicable diseases.
- CPR and Verbal De-escalation training are required for this position.
- First Aid and Handle with Care are not required for this position.
Education and Experience
- LPN certification in the State of Arkansas, maintained current and active at all times.
- One year of related experience preferred.
- Experience determining diagnoses using DSM-V preferred.
- Experience providing psychiatric evaluation and medication management using generally accepted treatment techniques preferred.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to use a computer as required. Must be able to communicate with others in an understandable manner. Must be able to operate standard office equipment. Work is primarily sedentary but must be able to move through the building to access office equipment. May need to occasionally move light equipment. Regular attendance at work is a requirement of this position. Able to travel within the five-county catchment area and to conferences/training as required.
