Job Title: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Full-time employee position in Hot Springs, AR

    Job Summary

    Administers the psychiatric treatment program for clients according to established performance expectations.

    Essential Functions

    • Provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment for clients as evidenced by:
      • Evaluating, diagnosing, and treating clients of all ages with mental disorders.
      • Providing psychiatric services via telehealth and onsite as required.
      • Provide an average of 37 hours of appointments each week.
      • Provide medication checks, yearly evaluation, and new evaluations using accepted treatment techniques and in accordance with prescribing guidelines.
      • Perform psychiatric assessment of client problems sufficient for determining services needed.
      • Use of appropriate acronyms for prescribing medication.
    • Provide Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services.
    • Oversee development and implementation treatment plans for clients based on assessment of client needs as evidenced by:
      • Reviewing and approving assignment of diagnosis by Primary Therapist supported by evidence documented in client record.
    • Provide accurate and timely documentation of client's response to treatment, service provided, assessment of progress, and justification for continued service as evidenced by:
      • Completing documentation according to current timeliness policy 95% of the time.
      • Completing evaluations according to current timeliness policy 95% of the time.
      • Signing off on discharge summaries within one (1) week of discharge summary being sent by clinician 95% of the time.
    • Work as a member of the team as evidenced by:
      • Attending stuffings as agreed upon with Administrative Supervisor.
      • Providing input into treatment and diagnostic questions from staff and clients as well as providing education regarding rationale, side effects, and expected outcomes of medications prescribed.
      • Following appropriate lines of communication to report and resolve problem situations according to established guidelines, chain of command, and approved committee actions.
      • Accepting constructive criticism related to performance and demonstrating acceptance by taking personal responsibility for appropriate change.
      • Using appropriate email etiquette such as replying to email in a timely manner, using discretion when forwarding another person's email, and using personal email accounts for nonwork-related email.
      • Serving as a peer mentor for new employees as requested.
    • Adhering to organizational policies and procedures as evidenced by:
      • Staying informed of current policies and procedures, committee actions, and other information required for the functional operation of the company, researching available resources and/or asking questions of supervisor or designee as needed.
      • Following company security and confidentiality policies at all times, accessing client and staff information only as needed for job duties and as approved by supervisor.
      • Complying with organizational computer, social media, and internet usage policies, reporting problems, and suggesting improvements to procedures, software, and equipment.
      • Adhering to work schedule and submitting requests for leave according to procedure. Unscheduled PTO/Absences (leave that is not scheduled and approved in advance) should not exceed three (3) in a 12-month period.
      • Completing required annual online training (i.e., Relias) and other training required by organization or for licensure.
    • Performing other work-related tasks as requested by an authorized supervisor. This may include, but is not limited to:
      • Student shadowing APN as part of internship.


    Required Skills / Abilities

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
    • Ability to communicate and coordinate with other services provides and involved community parties.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic medical records, and other related software.
    • Ability to travel to the office daily, or as required by the supervisor.
    • Knowledge and application of Client Rights and Responsibilities of all persons seeking services from organization.
    • CPR, First Aid, Handle with Care, and Verbal De-escalation Training are not required for this position.


    Education and Experience

    • Advanced practice registered nurse licensure in the State of Arkansas, maintained current and active at all times with one of the following certifications:
      • Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
      • Child Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
      • Adult Psychiatric Mental Health APN
      • Family Psychiatric Menta Health APN
    • One year of related experience preferred.
    • Experience determining diagnoses using DSM-V preferred.
    • Experience providing psychiatric evaluation and medication management using generally accepted treatment techniques preferred.


    Physical Requirements

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to use a computer as required. Must be able to communicate with others in an understandable manner. Must be able to operate standard office equipment. Work is primarily sedentary but must be able to move through the building to access office equipment. May need to occasionally move light equipment. Regular attendance at work is a requirement of this position. Able to travel within the five-county catchment area and to conferences/training as required.
